Relaxology Massage
The Ultimate Pampering!
Relieve stress & tension using specific
massage & pressure points to induce relaxation.
The techniques and procedures for this massage are based on those of reflexology. Most states do not allow nail techs to perform reflexology without specific licensing.
The "Relaxology" massage was developed for nail technicians to utilize for the ultimate, relaxing, stress reducing treatment. Relaxology may be used to enhance pedicures or as a stand alone service.
Designed to focus on specific sections of the body such as the shoulder, neck and back; allowing you to focus efforts where "stress" is carried.
Specific manipulations can be changed for both client and technician comfort, but the order in which you proceed should remain the same.
For best results use Poshe' Anti-Microbial Cuticle Oil to provide ease of movement, while providing protection from fungus and bacteria. Anti-Microbial Cuticle Oil absorbs into the skin, leaving the feet soft and smooth, without an oily mess.
The Theory
Reflexology stems from "zone therapy". This theory is over 5,000 years old, acupuncture and acupressure also stem from the ancient art of zone therapy.
Zone therapy is the theory that the body has ten zones and the blood that flows through each zone stays in that zone. The blood's job in the body is to take oxygen and nutrients to all the cells and tissues and pick up waste products (toxins). It is then returned to the lungs, where it is purified and back to the heart to be pumped back through the body, repeating the process.
Because of the pull of gravity, when the blood reaches the feet, there is a momentary slowing, allowing these toxins to accumulate. These are the crystals or lumps targeted during a reflexology treatment, the theory being that these toxins can be disbursed through massage.
The theory of "Relaxology" is based on the theory that all parts of the body have a direct correlation to another part of the body. Through correct massage procedures on the foot, an overall feeling of relaxation can be obtained, resulting in the reduction of stress.
It is very important to remember that nail technicians are not licensed to diagnose or perform therapeutic treatments. This massage is intended strictly as a method of promoting relaxation.
RELAXOLOGY MASSAGE TECHNIQUES
* Thumb Walking - Bend thumb at approximately 45-degree angle and make tiny steps over a specific area (press, release, slide, repeat). Use side of thumb to alleviate strain.
* Finger Walking - Like thumb walking, using 2 or more fingers. Good for over boney areas, such as tops of feet.
* Sliding - Using the side of the thumb, slide 1 inch at a time, gently slide back slightly without lifting and repeat.
* Pivoting - Use side of thumb to slowly pivot over small specific area, using a semi-circular motion.
* Crisscross - Thumbs moving in opposing directions simultaneously, especially useful along entire back area.
* Pinching - Apply pressure with thumb, finger or knuckle to a specific area; press, hold and release.
Precautions:
* Start and end with slow rhythmic stroking toward the heart to help blood toward the heart.
* Adjust pressure to client's sensitivity level.
* Use less pressure over boney, swollen, bruised or varicose areas.
* Always repeat movement 3 or 5 times.
* Try not to remove hands from client during massage, slide hands to next position.
* Support the foot with opposing pressure while performing manipulations.
* Ask client where she/he carries stress. Concentrate on these areas.
* Avoid massaging the ankle area (above the heel) on pregnant women.
* If ticklish, use more pressure.
* As with any massage, have plenty of water afterwards.
General Body Region Orientation:
Head and Neck - Located on the five toes of both feet, the neck begins at the base of the toes and as you move upward you move to the head.
Back - Along the entire inside of each foot goes exactly as your back is aligned from top to bottom.
Shoulder and Chest - From the base of the toes, to just below the ball of the foot.
Abdominal Region - From just below the ball of the foot through the entire arch of the foot.
